The Scale Doesn't Know Sh*t.
The scale doesn’t know sh*t. Let me show you how I know this. Exhibit A.
This is NOT a before and after. The number on the scale was the SAME in both these photos.
In the photo on the left, I was probably the strongest I’ve ever been. It was 2016 and I was doing orange theory frequently. My thighs and butt were so strong and dense that I was having a hard time finding pants and shorts that fit both my thighs and waist at the same time. (Strong girl problems).
And on the right, it was October 2020, I was about to pop at nine months pregnant. I was making homemade ice cream and surviving pandemic life like everyone else.
These are two very different circumstances but the number on the scale was the same. This was such a rad realization which was that the scale doesn’t determine my strength or abilities or health or beauty etc. It is just a number and a single data point.
A healthy relationship with the scale is one that isn’t about fear or validation. It is neutral data and it doesn’t tell you how to feel. You decide how you feel no matter the number.
This is me now, present day, 2022. Exhibit B.
Although the scale number is different now, the size of my clothes is still the same. And let me also offer that my “size” is a range. I recently bought something in a size 4 and something in a size 10 and plenty of sizes in between. I have items in small, medium, and large! Sizes are even more bonkers than the scale. I stopped looking at size as nothing more than an unreliable guide long ago. I just want things to fit, look good, and feel good when I wear them. Once I let all that drama go I was free to stop trying to fit into old jeans or hold myself back from investing in clothes that felt and looked great on me.
These numbers are not worthy of your self-esteem. Your destiny requires more of you than the size of your jeans! If you are hung up on the number on the scale or the size of your jeans please understand, that the scale doesn’t know sh*t.
To additionally support my point you can try putting this concept into financial terms. We could pull up your checking account and look at that number right now and make some judgments about you based on that number. How accurate would it be? Does that number tell us about your savings, investments, or expenses? Does that number tell us the story of you and how you got to be here right now? Does this single snapshot of your checking account factor in your self-worth or the value you bring to the world. NO. It’s just one freaking number.
Isn’t it time to let go of this old belief that the scale can tell you how happy can be? Let us show you how.
