Hot Take on Oprah’s Special: Shame, Blame and the Weight Loss Revolution

We love a good Oprah Special. Growing up and watching Oprah on a regular basis was delightful she brought us serious topics, fun topics, educational topics, and more. So when she came out with this new topic about “the Weight Loss Revolution” around GLP-1 drugs for weight loss, we were jazzed. We tuned in to hear from her, the experts, and first-hand accounts of people who use these types of drugs for weight loss.

We got some information and different viewpoints, but more than anything it left us with a feeling of needing more. The commercial segments were longer than the show segments, which meant that the information provided was very short and not very in-depth. Womp, womp.

We are not opposed to GLP-1’s for weight loss, but we were disappointed that the root cause of the obesity crisis in developed countries like the United States was at best glossed over in this special. Are we really saying that we don’t want to fight for a food supply that is slowly killing us? Our most abundant food supplies lack key nutrients, have excess calories, preservatives, and chemicals sprayed on them in the field. It felt like a sad state of affairs.
